Man shot by extortionists, dies at DMCH

A man who sustained bullet wounds in an attack by extortionists in the capital’s Rampura area succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday, a day after the incident. The victim was identified as Abdus Selim alias Selim, 45, a painter by profession and son of late Ramizuddin Sheikh of Bhedarganj upazila in Shariatpur district. Police said a group of criminals was collecting toll from the shop of one Sohel at Ulon road at West Rampura around 10 am on Wednesday. They opened fire on Selim, a resident of the area, when he tried to resist them. Later, injured Selim was whisked off to the DMCH where he died around 6 am today (Thursday).
