Man to die for murder in Faridpur

Dhaka – A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing a man in Faridganj upazila of Faridpur in 2000.The court also fined condemned convict Abdul Sattar, 60, Tk one lakh.According to the prosecution, Sirajul Islam, a resident of the village, locked in an altercation with Abdul Sattar over a trifling matter on December 8, 2000.At one stage, Sattar stabbed Sirajul indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he died on way to Faridganj upazila health complex.Mizanur Rahman, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case against three people, including Sattar, with Faridganj Police Station.Police submitted a charge sheet on June 27, 2001.After examining the records and eight witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Mamunur Rashid pronounced the verdict acquitting two other accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.UNB news agency
