Manik Mia’s 44th death anniversary today

The 44th anniversary of death of the legendary journalist and eminent politician of the sub-continent Tofazzal HossainManik Mia will be observed today (Saturday) in a befitting manner. On this day in 1969, Manik Mia, the epitome of democracy, a relentless fighter of Bengali cause and founder editor ofthe  Daily Ittefaq, breathed his last atthe age of 58 only. Manik Mia was born in a small town of Pirojpur district in1911.
During his up-bringing, studentlife and early years of career and family life, various frustrating incidents like the two world wars, severe famine of 1943 and communal violence emanatingfrom the movement for partition of the Sub-Continent creating India and Pakistan took place.
Manik Mia was active in writing against military rule, autocracy and violation of the fundamental rights of people and played a significant role in inspiring the people to join the struggle for freedom under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He was a close companion of Husyen Shaheed Suhrawardy. Various programmes have been taken to mark the  anniversary of Manik Mia. The programmes include Quran khwani, milad and doamahfil. A milad mahfil will be held at the Ittefaq Bhaban, 1 R.K. MissionRoad after Asr prayer while another Quran khwani and milad mahfil will be heldat the Azimpur graveyard in the morning from 7.00 am to 10.00 am.
