Maritime ports asked to hoist distant cautionary signal no 2

Maritime ports in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist warning signal no. two as the deep depression over the southeast bay and adjoining area moved slightly northwestward and intensified further into a cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’ over the same area.At 9 am on Thursday, it was centred about 1,230 km south of Chittagong port, 1,150 km south of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,255 km south of Mongla port and 1,200 km South of Payra port, said a Met office special bulletin.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a north/northwesterly direction, added the bulletin.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the deep depression centre is about 62 kph, and rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclonic centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
