Matior underlines importance of women empowerment for economic uplift

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahaman on Thursday underlined the importance of women empowerment for economic
development of the country.“The present government has given priority on women empowerment for socioeconomic development of rural people particularly the poor and distressed women to lead better life in society,” he said while distributing cheques among voluntary women social welfare organizations here.The cheques distribution ceremony was organized by Department of Women Affairs in cooperation with district administration with DC Mostakim Billah Faruqi in the chair.The minister urged the members of women voluntary social welfare organizations to work together for changing the livelihoods as well as economic condition of rural people.Stressing the need for participation of all women in the main stream of development because they are half of the total population of the country to build a poverty free Bangladesh, he said.Matior Rahaman said government has created opportunity for womenfolk of the country to participate in various income generating programmes to make them self reliant.Later, the minister distributed cheques of Taka 14 lakh among 78 voluntary women social welfare organizations of the district. –BSS,Mymensingh
