MDG-1 Achievement: B’desh to be honored in Rome

Bangladesh will be honoured through a special event in Rome on Sunday in recognition of its achievement of target set in the United Nations Millennium Development Goal (MDG-1) by the end of 2012.Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations will recognise this notable success and arrange a special event during the 38th session of the FAO conference, according to a letter written to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni by FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva.
Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque will represent Bangladesh and accept the formal recognition.
Recognition will also be given to other countries that have also reached the target set during 1996 World food Summit held in Rome in absolute terms of halving the total number of their undernourished inhabitants.
Dr Razzaque is leading a three-member Bangladesh delegation. Economic Relations Division Secretary Abul Kalam Azad is also with him.
