Meetings against food adulteration held in Gaibandha

An anti-adulteration meetings were held at different points of the
town on Tuesday with a call to stop adulteration in food items and
speed up anti adulteration drives.
Gaibandha Nagarik Parishad (GNP) arranged the meetings in different
crowded spots including Nutun Bazaar, Puratan Bazaar and Hawkers
Market areas of the town as part of its anti adulteration programmes.
The speakers in their speeches said the markets have been flooded with
formalin and carbide mixed fruits and the unscrupulous traders are
making brisk business through selling the toxic fruits like mango,
apple, grape, pineapple, litchi and date including tomatoes and fishes
to the customers at random.
As a result, people particularly children are being affected with long
and short term bad impacts in their bodies. Even, important organs
like kidney and heart of the human bodies are being damaged due to
taking poison mixed fruits, vegetables and fishes, they also said.
They emphasized on building social movement in this regard and urged
the government to take necessary measures without delay to stop
selling of adulterated food items by the unscrupulous traders to the
customers considering the public health.
They also demanded of conducting mobile court frequently in the fruit
and kitchen markets and to give punitive punishment for the dishonest
shop owners and fruit traders so that they could not get courage
further to sell adulterated food items to the innocent customers.
Convener of GNP Advocate Sirajul Islam Babu, member secretary Ariful
Islam, members Nilupher Islam Shilpi, Quazi Abu Rahen Shafiullah,
Advocate GSM, addressed the meetings.
