Mehedi guides Khulna to take lead against Rangpur Div

Dhaka — Mehedi Hasan guided Khulna Division to take a nine–run lead against Rangpur Division scoring a tremendous century in the National Cricket League (NCL) on Sunday. His ton came after his team lost eight wickets for 80 runs on the second day of the fourth round match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

In the other match, Dhaka Metro punished hosts Chattogram Division at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city imposing follow-on after posting 422 in the first innings.

Tier-1

Rangpur Division vs Khulna Division

Replying to Rangpur’s first innings total of 224 runs, Khulna resumed the first innings with overnight total of 24/2 in 9 overs and finally posted 233 runs in 71 overs to take nine-run lead. Their innings featured a 133-run ninth wicket stand by Mehedi and Rubel Hossain.

Mehedi, who came to bat when Khulna were struggling at 80 for 8, hammered a polished 119 off 150 with 15 fours and a six while Rubel remained unbeaten on 36 off 109 deliveries.

Right-arm pacer Robiul Haque bagged five wickets for Rangpur conceding 41 runs in 18 overs while Mukidul Islam and Sajedul Islam took two wickets each.

In reply, Rangpur opened the second innings and posted 67 for 4 at the end of day-2. Sohrawordi Shuvo scored 24, Mehedi Maruf hit 23 while Sajedul Islam and Nasir Hossain remained unbeaten on zero.

Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak, who emerged as the first Bangladeshi cricketer to grab 600 wickets in first-class cricket on Saturday, bagged three wickets for Khulna on Sunday, taking 10 wickets in the match.

Rajshahi Division vs Dhaka Division

In the day’s other Tier-1 match, Dhaka are leading by 54 runs in their first innings against Rajshahi with six wickets in hand at the Academy ground of Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

Rajshahi posted 230 in 86.1 overs in their first innings. In reply, Dhaka scored 284 for four wickets in 91 overs at the end of day-2.

Opener Abdul Mazid and Saif Hassan, who were unbeaten at 0 each at the end of day-1, scored 16 and 28 respectively.

Dhaka lost four wickets within 104 runs. But during the unbeaten partnership in the fifth wicket, Taibur Rahman and Shuvagata Hom added 180 runs. Taibur posted 93 off 164 with eight fours and one six while Shuvagata hit 92 off 169 with seven fours and one six.

Sunzamul Islam took three wickets conceding 106 runs in 33 overs while Saqlain Sajib scalped one wicket.

Barishal Division vs Sylhet Division

Barishal are trailing by 148 runs in their second innings in the Tier-2 game against Sylhet at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

Resuming their overnight total of 82/1 in 32 overs, Sylhet posted 322 runs all-out in 113.1 overs replying to Sylhet’s first innings total of 162/10 in 57.1 overs.

Shanaj Ahmed, who was unbeaten for 32 at the end of day-1, posted 73 off 182 while Zakir Hasan scored 53. Imtiaz Hossain hit 48, Jaker Ali scored 35 and captain Alok Kapali contributed with 29 runs.

Monir Hossain bagged three wickets conceding 33 runs for Barishal.

In reply, Barishal posted 12 for one wicket in six overs. They are trailing by 148 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Dhaka Metro vs Chattogram Division

Chattogram are in trouble against Dhaka Metro trailing by 216 runs in their second innings with seven wickets in hand at the end of day two at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Dhaka Metro posted 403 runs all-out in 108.4 overs. Overnight batsman Shadman Islam missed a double ton as he ended on 178 runs. Shamsur Rahman (50) and Al Amin (83) also hit fifties.

Right-arm pacer Hasam Mahmud bagged three wickets for Chattogram conceding 72 runs while Irfan Hossain, Nayeem Hasan and Minhajub Abedin Afridi took two wickets each.

In reply, Chattogram tumbled for 91 in their first innings in 30.5 overs. Sadikur Rahman was the best batsman scoring 22 runs.

Sharifullah took four wickets conceding 30 runs for Dhaka while Taskin Ahmed bagged three for 34 runs.

Dhaka Metro secured a first-innings lead of 312 runs and imposed follow-on. Chattogram lost three more wickets in their second innings posting 96 runs in 34 overs at the end of day two.

Pinak Ghosh and Tasamul Haque were unbeaten for 55 and 14 respectively.
