US First Lady Michelle Obama recently announced a new education campaign called “62 Million Girls”. In a letter the First Lady said that at the moment, more than 62 million girls worldwide are out of school. She has identified some vital reasons why the girls are not getting enough access to education which include:
–Many of them simply can’t afford the school fees
–the nearest school is miles away and they don’t have safe transportation to get there
— maybe there’s a school nearby, but it doesn’t have adequate bathroom facilities for girls
— cultural norms and traditions that deem girls unworthy of an education
Stressing the need for educating girls for socio-economic development, Michelle Obama invited all to join the education campaign by Sharing a photo of self (B/W) on Twitter or Instagram, and telling the world what one learned in school using #62MillionGirls.
While heartily appreciating First Lady Michelle Obama’s initiative I sincerely wish the success of the campaign.
