Militancy campaign to hide crisis made with lopsided polls: Bnp

BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed yesterday alleged that the government is trying to mislead the people and the international community with their intentional militancy campaign only to hide the political crisis it has created by holding a lopsided election on January 5 2014.
In a press statement, he warned the law enforcers that although the Prime Minister announced to take responsibility for mass killings, no one would be able to evade trial for their involvement in the killings. The BNP leader urged the government to come to the path of democracy shunning autocracy and dictatorship. “Save the country, its people and try to protect yourselves.”
He said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will face legally the ‘false’ cases filed against her though there is no scope for opposition to get justice due the government’s naked interference in the judiciary.
“We’ve earlier said it’s not possible to establish the rule of law when the judicial system is controlled by the executive. The hope of the opposition leaders and activists for getting justice has been tarnished long ago due to naked interference in the judiciary. Even after that, Khaleda Zia will face all the false cases filed against her with legal steps,” he said.
Accusing the government of turning the country into a terrible police state, Salahuddin said people have now lost their confidence in laws and courts. “People never in the past witnessed such blood shedding from the body of democracy.”
The BNP leader alleged that Bangladesh has now become a valley of death due to the evil efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to hang onto power by walking on the bodies of the people who are in movement.
He alleged that the Prime Minister at a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday openly announced the punishment of Khaleda Zia. “The effectiveness of the laws, courts and the judiciary are no longer there after such announcement from her,” he said. – Staff Reporter
