Milky murder case, AL leader’s bail denied

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka court on Sunday rejected a bail petition of Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary of Awami League central committe in the case filed over Riazul Haque Khan Milky murder.Magistrate Md Imdadul Haque of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing on the bail petition and the accused was sent him to the jail.

The court accepted a supplementary charge sheet of the case against 18 people, most of them belong to the ruling Awami League. The court directed to issue warrants of arrest for six absconding accused on March 14.

The court also asked the Officer-in-Charge of the concerned police station to submit a report on the compliance of the arrest warrants on April 25. The absconding six accused are, Shakhawat Hossain Chanchal, Md Arif alias, Arif Hossain, Md Ibrahim Khalil Ullah, Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, Md Sharif Uddin and Fahima Islam Lopa.

On April 15, 2015 Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalion-1, Kazemur Rashid and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against 11 people in the case.

Two months later, the court ordered CID to re-investigate in the murder case following a no confidence petition of the complaint of the case.

On September 23, 2015, the CID submitted the supplementary charge sheet to the court implicating seven more people with the previous 11 accused.

Milky, who was an organising secretary of Dhaka City (South) unit of Juba League, was shot dead by armed men in the early hours of July 30, 2013, in front of a shopping mall at Gulshan-1 roundabout. The shooting scene was recorded by a CCTVcamera of the shopping mall.

Soon after the murder, RAB arrested prime accused of the case, Jubo League leader Zahid Siddique Tarique from a hospital at Uttara of the capital. But, he was killed in a ‘shootout’ with RAB members on August 1, of the same year.

Milky’s brother Rashedul Haque Khan filed a murder case with Gulshan Police Station the same night.
