DHAKA – Ministers of Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance government on Saturday blasted Noble Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus for his statement about election under a non-partisan government and said that Dr Yunus unmasked his face through the assertion.
They also termed Jamaat-Shibir better than Muhammad Yunus, who received Noble prize for peace.
Dr Yunus at a press conference on Thursday said that the next parliamentary election must be held under a non-partisan government to rid the country of the ongoing volatile situation and ensure its progress.
He further said there is no scope to hold the parliamentary election peacefully without a non-partisan government.
“Jamaat-Shibir too show their admiration to the myrtyrs of on 21st February, the Independence Day and the Victory Day but nobody can claim that Yunus paid homage to the myrtyrs on any day,” said State Minister for Law Advocate Quamrul Islam while addressing a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
Quamrul said he is not aware whether any Noble Laureate in the globe was disputed in such a short time.
“He (Yunus) has been hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh. Padma bridge is not constructed due to him,” said the State Minister.
He said they don’t need to make Dr Ynuns controversial as he made himself contentious.
Quamrul challenged the acting secretary general of the opposition that Tareque Rahman was the mastermind of August 21 grenade attack on than opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.
He claimed that two meetings were held at Hawa Bhaban before the August 21 grenade attack.
Minister for Post and Telecommunications Sahara Khatun alleged that the opposition has been hatching conspiracy to kill AL chief Sheikh Hasina.
The meeting organised by Janatar Protashya was held to mark the 9th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman with its president MA Karim in the chair. Mohila AL president Ashrafunnesa Musharraf, MP also addressed the function.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters after inaugurating an eye camp at Mirpur Upazila in Kustia on Saturday Minister for Information Hasanul Haque Inu criticised the statement of Dr Yunus on national election saying that he joined the politics by unveiling his face after a long.
“We welcome and greet him as he (Yunus) entered the politics,” he said.
The Minister said Yunus had entered the politics during the 1/11 changeover taking Fakhrudidn and Moinuddin but he left the filed within a couple of days.
“This time, we hope that he will not leave the field of politics and we will talk to him in the language of politics,” he added.
He said people have to think whether it would be wise to hand over power to them to whom the institution like Grameen Bank is not safe.
Inu said the Prime Minister is ready to hold the election be participated by all parties.
He said the government would place a bill if it feels necessary after holding discussion between the two sides.
Presided over by Shamser Ali, president of Justice Radha Binod Pal Model College ground, the function was also addressed, among others, by Afroza Haque and deputy commissioner Syed Belal Hossain.
