President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday said there is no doubt about the ministers’ loosing their jobs after they have tendered their resignations to the prime minister.“If the resigning ministers enjoy their privileges and facilities as ministers, they will have to pay money back from their pockets,” he said while addressing a roundtable at Hotel Razmoni Ishakha in the city.
Organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), the roundtable on prevailing political crisis and election-time government system was held with JSD president ASM Abdur Rob in the chair.
Referring to the prime minister’s remark that she would not deviate even a hair from the constitution, the former President said all her hairs have been moved after the violation of Article 58 (1) of the constitution.
He held the prime minister responsible to create the prevailing political impasse saying that she brought amendment to the constitution taking the first part of the court observations into consideration but ignored the second one to hold two more elections under the caretaker government system.
Chowdhury cautioned that the country would face severe political violence unless the political impasse is not resolved soon.
“The prevailing crisis creates violence pushing the country towards a humanitarian and political catastrophe. If the government tries to hold the lopsided election forcibly, the violence may repeat even after the poll,” he apprehended.
The Bikalpa Dhara leader suggested the government to start talks with the opposition and said movement cannot be treated as a barrier for the talks.
He further said the prime minister would also be held responsible if the political stalemate is not resolved.
Chowdhury criticised the government to bring amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) Bill and the Anti-Corruption Law what he said for criminalisation of politics and curtailing the power of the anti-corruption watchdog.
He also criticised the government for taking five senior BNP leaders on police remands.
Chowdhury said time has come to get united and to do something for the people.
Abdur Rob said holding cabinet meeting with the resigning ministers would be unconstitutional one since the posts of ministers fell vacant following submission of their resignation. “The government has been carrying out all unconstitutional works,” he said.
The JSD leader said the prime minister has shut all the doors to hand over power peacefully.
He said a third political alliance comprising five political parties would be forged soon.
The political parties are—Bikalpa Dhara led by Badruddoza Chowdhury, Gano Forum led by Dr Kamal Hossain, Krishak Sramik Janata League of Kader Siddiqui, JSD of Abdur Rob and Nagorik Oikya led by Mahmudur Rahman Manna, he said.
Local government expert Dr Tofayel Ahmed termed the constitution unbalanced amd said that there is no such unbalanced democratic structure of constitution in the globe.
“That’s why it had turned into a individual and family rule. There should be brought as major changes in the constitution,” he observed.
JSD secretary general Abdul Malek Raton and journalist Monir Haider also spoke on the occasion.
