Ministry to promote new engineers’ innovative ideas: Nasrul

The Power and Energy Ministry will promote innovative ideas of young engineering students through the ‘Energy Research Council’, a newly set up research body of the ministry.

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid on Tuesday announced this while addressing a roundtable on ‘Industry, Academia & GoB Collaboration: Incubating Youth Innovation – Unlocking the untapped Potential of Power & Energy Sector of Bangladesh’ at the Bidyut Bhaban in the city. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

The Energy Research Council and Engineering Students Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) jointly organised the roundtable.

The programme was also addressed by energy research council’s chairman and Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikawas, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (Sreda) chairman Anwarul Islam Sikder and Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain.

Speaking at the roundtable, a number of young engineering students said they always badly feel for free laboratory support to carry on their research works.

They also said many young engineering students generate many unique ideas as part of their research work at the concluding part of their study. But these innovative ideas remain merely ideas due to lack of necessary supports for turning them into commercial enterprise.

In this regard, Nasrul Hamid said his ministry will take initiatives to nurture the innovative ideas through providing support through the energy research council.

He also said the power and energy ministry will involve the young engineers in their projects as intern professionals.

Sreda chairman Anwarul Islam Sikder said his organisation will offer internship to newcomer engineers at different projects.

Power Cell DG Mohammad Hossain said the cell has already introduced internship at different power entities for new engineers.
