Mintoo, Pinto nomination appeals to be decided Saturday

Fates of BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and former lawmaker Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, both mayoral aspirants for bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation will be decided on Saturday with the decision on their appeals against the disqualification of their nomination papers.
The Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka will hear the appeals of the two pro-BNP candidates against cancellation of their nomination papers for the mayoral elections scheduled to be held on April 28.
Meanwhile, two more mayoral aspirants and 53 councillor aspirants of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) appealed to Dhaka Divisional commissioner’s office on Friday seeking validation of their nominations.The two mayor aspirants Nayem Hasan for DNCC and Babul Sardar Chakhari for DSCC apealed against the cancellation as their nominations were cancelled for loan default on Wednesday.
With this the number of mayoral aspirants who appealed before the Divisional Commissioner’s office stands to 5.
Sahidul Islam, director, local government of Dhaka Division informed this and said hearing of the appeals will be started at the divisional office from Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, Mayoral aspirants Abdul Awal Mintoo, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, Rezaul Islam appealed to Dhaka divisional commissioner Zillar Rahman for reconsidering the nomination papers submitted to contest the upcoming bifurcated Dhaka city corporation polls. – – Staff Reporter
