Misbehaviour with parents prompts student to attempt suicide

Dhaka, Sept 16 – A college boy on Tuesday reportedly attempted to commit suicide form the college building at Mirpur-10 area in the capital as the college authorities misbehaved with his parents.Nasir Uddin, Sub Inspector (SI) of Kafrul Police station confirmed the matter and said that at 12 pm the boy attempted to commit Suicide.
The victim was identified as Shariar Alam Akash is a second year student of Business section in Banophool Adibashi Green Heart College (BAGHC).
The boy was humiliated as the college authorities phoned his parents yesterday morning and misbehaved with them due to his poor exam results. The boy was at home with his family. Later he came to college and jumped down from the third floor of the college building, said the SI quoting the students and college authorities.
“We didn’t get the boy in college. He is undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he added.
However, the college authorities said that Akash fell from the second floor stairs to ground. He was immediately taken to the National Institute of Neuroscience Agargaon. He was doing well till filling the report as the college authority confirmed.
In the meantime, rumors spread inside the college that the student had died. Students started protesting. They vandalized the window glass, the school authorities’ private cars.
Sajal Chandra Sarker, Rector of BAGHC said that Akash will be appeared for the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) exam next year. They called her father to come to college yesterday because of his poor results in last exam. Knowing this, the student left the classroom and this was what happened then.
There is also a school branch of BAGHC; about 1,000 students were trapped inside in the campus for the vandalism. Later they were handed over to their guardian.
College students said that recently result was published of final examination and Akash did not make good marks. The teachers and other bodies of the college rebuked him and also summoned his parents. He did this for the pressure of the teachers and they want justice for this.
SI Nasir Uddin said that extra forces were deployed in the college campus and now the situation is under control. The high officials of Police are talking to the college authorities and the victim’s family members.
Earlier, On December last year same type of incident happened in Viqarunnisa Noon School & College where a class IX student Aritri Adhikari, 16 committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence allegedly due to humiliation by her teachers.
After her death students protested and case was file in this regard which is going on. – Staff Reporter
