Mithun hopes to play better cricket at Mirpur, if selected

Dhaka -Top-order batsman Mohammad Mithun on Monday insisted that Bangladesh need to play their best cricket to register a positive result at the Test against West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla National Crocket Stadium, beginning on November 30.The right-handed batsman had an optional training session on Monday at the National Cricket Academy. The hosts beat the tourists in Chattogram in the first Test of the two-match series. They outplayed the tourists by a big margin of 64 runs which is Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win over West Indies at home.

Mithun, who has almost cemented his place on the national side for all three formats, believes Bangladesh need to play their best brand of cricket to defeat the Caribbeans in the second successive Test.

“West Indies are good as a team. There’s no question about it. If we want to get an expected result against them, we’ve to play our best cricket. There’s no way of winning against them playing a feeble cricket. So, we’ve to play according to our plan against them,” Mithun said while talking to reporters.

The right-handed batsman was disappointed in Chattogram as he scored 20 in the first innings and put another poor performance scoring 17 in the second. In both the cases, he got dismissed while facing Devendra Bishoo. Despite enjoying an excellent reputation as a solid batsman against spinners, Mithun’s performance in Chattogram disappointed his admirers. The right-hander is, however, confident to stage a comeback in Dhaka.

“My performance in Test is not as expected of me. There is another Test in the series. If I get a place in the playing XI, I’ll try to do something remarkable in Dhaka,” he insisted.UNB
