Mobile Number Portability: Robi wins maximum, GP loses most

After the initial launch of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service in the country, a tendency of leaving Grameenphone network and joining Robi has been seen among most mobile phone subscribers who availed of it.

According to data of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) released on Sunday, a total of 47,090 subscribers applied for changing their mobile operators without changing the existing phone numbers in 18 days since its launch on October 1.

Of them, 26,817 have been able to change their mobile phone operators and the rest failed.Of the successful customers, 16,916 switched to Robi network while 5,526 to Banglalink, 4,041 to Grameenphone and 334 went to state-owned Teletalk. Meanwhile, 11,676 customers left GP while 8,916 Banglalink, 5,973 Robi and 252 Teletalk during the period.

Among the 20,255 customers who failed to change their operators, 13,406 wanted to take the service of Robi while 4,087 that of Banglalink, 2,631 of GP and 131 wanted to switch to Teletalk. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the MNP service on Sunday.Recently, the government has reduced the cost of the MNP service from initial Tk 157.50 to Tk 57.50.
