Mohakal to celebrate 35th founding anniversary Saturday

Dhaka, July 13 – Theatre troupe Mohakal Natya Sampraday will celebrate its 35th founding anniversary at Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday. The event will feature discussion, get together, award ceremony and staging of the play ‘Nilakhyan’ by the troupe at 7 pm
Founder of the troupe and Bangladesh Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus will preside over the programme while Advocate Afzal Hossain and eminent theatre artistes Lucky Enam will hand over crests to the troupe’s advisory board members.
The play ‘Nilakhyan’ has been adapted by Anan Zaman based on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s short story ‘Shapure’ where Director Yousuf Hasan Arko uses the traditional narrative theatre technique to present the story.
The play, which is the 36th production of the troupe, will narrate the story of a snake-charmer whose dilemma over the desires for physical love and spiritual attainment takes the centre stage.
Poly Biswas, Tonu Ghosh, Litu Mondal, Monami Islam Kanak, Jerin Tasneem Esha, Sonia Islam and Nirjhor Odhikary, among others, will be seen in the cast of the play. Director Yousuf Hasan Arko has also directed music for the play and has designed the set while Zerin Tasneem Esha designed the choreography and Thandu Raihan has done the light design.
Mohakal Natya Sampraday stared its journey with the play ‘E Lash Ami Rakhbo Kothay’ in 1983. Some of its popular and much-acclaimed plays are ‘Bayannor Shakun’, ‘Sunai Koinyar Pala’, ‘Bodh’, ‘Ghume Nei’, ‘Shikhandi Kotha’, ‘Nisimon Bisarjon’ and ‘Prometheus’.
The troupe has produced 39 stage and street plays in the last 34 years, said Mahakal chief Mir Zahid Hasan. – UNB
