Dhaka Mohammedan SC clinched the Garmeenphone Super Cup Football crown beating Sheikh Russel KC by 4-2 goals in the tie breaker at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.The keenly contested final match between the two teams was locked in a 1-1 goal in the stipulated 90 minutes and also in the extra session of 30-minute time in front of some 10,000 holiday crowd.
This is the first trophy for the youthful black and white Mohammedan in the season after finishing 5th in the GP Premier League.
Former champions Mohammedan SC were emerged as very much favourite in the crore taka Super Cup as they lifted the title twice of three versions of the meet after reaching the final for every time.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader witnessed the final of the season’s cash-rich tournament as the chief guest and later distributed the prizes.
National striker Zahid Hasan Emily scored for Sheikh Russel KC in the first half while promising striker Wahed Ahmed restored the parity for Mohammedan SC in the 2nd half of the regulation period.
In the penalty shootout, Mobarak, Manik, Shohag and Mintu Sheikh converted the spot kick correctly while Rajani missed another chance.
For Sheikh Russel KC, Emily and Mithun scored while Nahid and Sobuj Kumar spoiled the spot kicks.
In the last minute of the extra session, Sheikh Russel defender Linkon kicked Mohammedan striker Wahed off the ball and Wahed reacts wildly. Both the players were got marching order after receiving red card by referee Miron.
Zahid Hasan Emily put treble winners Sheikh Russel KC ahead in the 27th minute by tapping the ball home from middle of the box utilising a left flank cross of national medio Zahid Hossain off an angular through pass of Anwar (1-0).
Promising striker Wahed Ahmed restored the parity for the black and white team Mohammedan in the 54th minute by a rebound shot as his first attempt blocked by Sheikh Russell custodian Biplob, off a long pass Tapu Barman (1-1).
