Mohona Hospital that denied Zaglul treatment, had no licence

The government has stopped the operations of Mohona Hospital at Green Road in the city for functioning without licence.
A team of the Health Ministry and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), led by ministry joint secretary Mosharraf Hossain and DGHS director Prof Dr ABM Abdul Hannan, ordered the suspension during a visit to the hospital on Monday.Health Minister Mohammad Nasim ordered the visit following the allegation of negligence of duty against Mohona Hospital in the treatment of renowned journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury who died in a road accident on Saturday night.
During the visit, the team found that the hospital had been running without any government approval. The authorities concerned had earlier obtained a licence for running a diagnostic centre.
Later, the ministry and DGHS team ordered instant suspension of the hospital operations, asking the authorities to transfer patients admitted there to other hospitals within 24 hours.
The Health Ministry has also formed a three-member panel to urgently probe the matter.
Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, former managing director and chief editor of state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), slipped onto the street while getting down from a bus at Karwan Bazar on Saturday night.
Pedestrians took him to the Mohona Hospital which refused to treat him. – UNB
