Most mayor post contenders face cases filed against them

Most of the aspirants to the mayoral posts in the upcoming bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation polls are facing cases against them.
It is always desirable by the voters that the candidates would be a clean person who would represent them as their city father.According to the wealth statement uploaded on the Election Commission website, BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo contesting for they mayoral posts to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) poll is facing 13 cases including three cases under the Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Of the cases, he is on bail from five cases while remaining cases are pending at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court. Besides, he had three cases against him previously and got relieved from the charges.
Jatiya Party backed candidate Bahauddin has a case under the Section 302/34 but he has taken stay order from the High Court. Besides, he had another case in the past under the same section and the case is under stay order.
Chowdhury Irad Ahmad Siddique had a case under Section 500 at the CMM court and the High Court gave a stay order of the case.
Tabith Awal, son of Abdul Awal Mintoo, Awami League supported candidate Anisul Haque, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury and Former Awami League lawmaker and filmstar Sarah Begum Kabari did not have any legal case against them.
On the other hands, the different aspirants to the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls have various cases against them.
BNP city unit Convener Mirza Abbas is now 38 cases against him in different courts and earlier he had 24 cases against him.
Among the running 38 cases, he has five cases under Section 302 and three cases under explosive cases.
On the other hand, Awami League backed candidate Mohammad Syeed Khokon did not have any case at present but he had five cases including two cases under the Section 302 and he got relieved of the cases.
Another aspirant under BNP banner Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu is facing four cases including cases under Section 302. Of the cases, two cases are under investigation, deposition for one case is going on while verdict has been sentenced in another case but it is under trial of higher court. Pintu is at present in the jail.
Besides he had two cases under explosive act and got relief of the cases.
Finance secretary of BNP’s central committee Abdus Salam is currently facing three cases including two cases under Section 302. All the cases are under investigation.
Former Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony in his wealth statement mentioned that in the present record of cases he said that he does not have any case at present.
But in the past record of cases he mentioned three cases and he is on bail from the lower and higher court of the cases.
Independent candidate Kazi Abul Bashar facing 11 cases at different courts and all the cases are under investigation. Besides, he had two cases including one case under explosive act but he got relieve of those cases.
Mayoral aspirant Bazlur Rashid Firoz is facing two cases right now. Besides, he had four cases and got relief of those cases.
Bahran-e Sultan Bahar is facing three cases currently on different charges at different courts.
Earlier he had three cases under section 4/5 of speedy trial act and got relief of the charges.
Another mayoral aspirant Abdur Rahman did not have any case right now but he had four cases under different sections at different courts and got relief of the charges.
Jatiya Party supported candidate Mohammad Saifuddin in the wealth statement said he did not have any case. – Staff Reporter
