Motorbike showdown at BAU over BCL committee

Mymensingh, Sept 3 – Leaders and activists of Chhatra League (BCL) Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit have expressed dissatisfaction and frustration over the existing committee as it has expired its tenure about two years ago. Clashes and casualties are observed frequently between two groups of BCL members to take over dominance on the campus. Tension and fear of chaos has arisen among general students on the campus.
On 7 November 2016, the present committee with Md Sabuj Kazi as president and Miah Mohammad Rubel as general secretary was made for one year in a letter signed by former BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Zakir Hossain.
One year later, a full committee was announced. Then on July 27, 2018 a partial hall committee and on June 27, 2019 full committees of eight halls were announced.
Many students are getting involved in grouping politics in the hope of getting posts in the new ommittee.
Last Saturday night, leaders and activists met in a clash in Fazlul Haque Hall and Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall between two BCL groups. Earlier in march this year, at least five leaders of BCL were injured in clash between two groups at KR Market.
Recently, a section of BCL new committee seeker-leaders along with external people named Faisal, Ripon, Sohag, Sunny organised regular showdowns in evening and at night with 15-20 motorcycles to take over dominancy on the campus.
BAU BCL president Sabuj Kazi said, new committee and leadership will come by way of rules. Someone have different motives as they are trying to make chaos on the campus. BAU BCL joint general secretary and new committee seeker Nur-a Alam Topon said that the current committee had expired its tenure about two years ago. We want new committee by dissolving the existing committee. – BAU Correspondent
