Members of Parliament on Tuesday accused the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir and their leaders of patronising and promoting militancy in the country.
Speaking in Parliament session on point of order, they also demanded the government to carryout investigation to find out whether the BNP-Jamaat or Khaleda Zia was involved with the incident of snatching of JMB convicts from Trishal on Sunday.
The ruling party lawmakers criticized the US embassy officials to hold meeting with Hefazat leaders at Hathazari Madrasha recently.They also expressed their concern over the news that Chhatra Shibir topped the third rank as an international terrorist organization.
“The militants in Bangladesh have been encouraged following the release of audio message by al-Qaeda leader Allama Zawaheri and patronization of BNP and Jamaat. I will request the ministry of home affairs to investigate whether the BNP-Jamaat or Khaleda Zia was involved in snatching militants from prison vans,” said Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.
He termed BNP, Jamaat-Shibir as militant organizations saying that the militancy has been emerged in Bangladesh in patronization of BNP.
AL leader Tofail Ahmed accused Khaleda Zia of taking attempt in 2001 to make Bangladesh as a militant country.
“The militants have been active again in patronization of BNP-Jamaat. Time has come to take action against them,” he said.
Tofail alleged that there was relation of militants with BDR munity that left 57 army officials killed.
Earlier, addressing the House under section 300 of the Rules of Procedures, Minister for Agriculture Matia Chowdhury strongly criticized the US embassy officials for holding meeting with Hefazat leaders.
“Question arises, when we see, the foreign officials are holding meeting with militants. Indeed, they flourish militants and maintain friendships with them when they go to power,” she alleged.
The minister criticized BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for his statement and claimed that Zawaheri had visited Bangladesh taking permission from the BNP and stayed here for three months.
Opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury also demanded carrying out investigation into the incident of Trishal.
Torikat Federation leader Nojibul Boshar Maijbhandari, Workers Party leader Fazle Hossain Badsha also took part in the discussion.
Later, some lawmakers took part in general discussion on thanks-giving motions on the address of the President. – Staff Reporter
