M Saifuzzaman Shohagh, a Chhatra League leader of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) unit who was reportedly picked up by Rab members on December 9, was found in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong district on Wednesday.Quoting family members, Harun-or-Rashid, former president of RU unit BCL, said police rescued Saifuzzaman Sohag with his hands and legs tied up with ropes from the area in the morning.
Later, he was brought to Rajshahi from Chittagong.
Akkasuzzaman, father of Sohag, said, “Sohag made a phone call to me around 4 am and told me that the miscreants left him there blindfolded. My son is now fine but he is now traumatised. Miscreants kept him blindfolded since abduction,” said Sohag’s father.
However, it could not be known immediately who had abducted Sohag, he said.
Earlier, a group of unidentified people, numbering 8-10, posed themselves as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and picked up Saifuzzaman Sohag, information and research secretary of Ruet unit of BCL, in a white microbus from his house in Terokhada area of the city on December 9.
They also took Sohag’s laptop, camera and some ornaments from the house.
On December 11, the kidnappers demanded money for his release over phone.
Akkasuzzaman filed a case with Rajshahi’s Rajpara police station on December 13.
Meanwhile, police arrested two people from Narayanganj and Rajshahi districts in connection with the incident.
