The death of Sharmin Aktar (19), pregnant wife of one Milan Mallik of
village Aruaborni under Chitalmari Upazil in the district is shrouded
in mystery.
It is learnt from the police and the locals that the dead body of
Sharmin Aktar who was pregnant for six months was found hanging with a
beam of her dwelling house on the night of Saturday. Being informed of
the matter police of Chitalmari PS went to the spot in the following
morning, recovered the dead body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar
Hospital for its autopsy. In this connection a UD case was lodged with
the PS.. The relatives of the deceased housewife claim that she was,
perhaps, tortured to death by her husband and later the dead body was
hanged with a beam of the house as some signs of injuries were found
on her body. Zillur Rahman, SI of police of Chitalmari PS tells the
newsmen that after getting the postmortem report it can be ascertained
whether it was a case of suicide or homicide.
