N Korean belligerence worries Dhaka

Bangladesh has called upon the Government of North Korea to exercise restraint and refrain from any further action which may contribute to the escalation of the already heightened security situation in the region and find ways to de-escalate tension.Bangladesh has also expressed deep concern over the nuclear test conducted by North Korea.

“Bangladesh is deeply concerned with the recent nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK),” said a foreign ministry statement on Saturday.This is in violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions nos. 1718, 1874, 2087 and 2094 and the non-proliferation regimes, it said.As a state party to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Bangladesh is committed to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, the statement read.Bangladesh believes that the nuclear test carried out by the DPRK contravenes the interests of peace, stability and security of the region and beyond, it added.
