National Mourning Day observed at RU

Rajshahi University (RU) paid glowing tributes with deep mourn and solemnity to mark the 40th anniversary of martyrdom of founding president of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was killed by some brutal assassins on this day of 1975 with most of his family members.
At 7.00 am today, Vice Chancellor Professor Mizanur Rahman, Pro-vice chancellor Professor Chowdhory Sarwar Jahan, Treasurer Professor Sayen Uddin Ahmed, Register Professor Muhammad Entajul Haque and many top officials placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait. Later, they observed one minute of silence and offered Munajat for the salvation of his departed soul.Different residential halls of RU including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA), Progressive Teachers Society, Bangabandhu Parishad and different professional, social and cultural organisations placed wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait.
Besides, on the occasion of mourning day RUTA officials brought out a rally from Jubery Bhaban at 8.00 that ended in front of Bangabandu hall and went round diffrent roads on the campus.
RUTA president Professor DR. Ananda Kumar Shaha, secretary Dr. Md Rezaul Karim, Professor Shatil Siraj, Professor Dulal Chandra Biswas attended the programme. Recitation of verses from the holy Quran, milad mahfil and discussion meetings on Bangabandu’s life and work were held throughout the day. – RU Correspondent
