Dhaka – Nepal clinched the five-nation first Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball title with all-win record beating the Maldives by straight 3-0 sets in the final at the Shaheed Suhrawardi National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
The Maldives finished runners-up with three wins and two losses.Hosts Bangladesh, which came to the limelight beating Kyrgyzstan by 3-2-sets in the last league match on Wednesday, finished 4th in the five-team fray losing to Kyrgyzstan by straight 0-3 sets in the 3rd place deciding match at the same venue on Thursday.
Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak witnessed the day’s final as the chief guest and later he distributed the prizes.
Local MP Elias Uddin Mollah, DCC Mayor (North) and Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) President M Atiqul Islam, BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza ,BVF general secretary Ashiqur Rahman Miku, Chairman of the Younus Group Mohammad Younus and the Ambassador of the Maldives Aishath Shaan Shakir were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Bangladesh women’s team were eliminated from the title race after conceding two successive defeats, losing to Nepal by 0-3 sets in the 3rd match and suffering 0-3 sets defeat against the Maldives in the 2nd match after making a flying start beating Afghanistan by straight 3-0 sets in the opening match.Nepal smartly reached final of the meet with all-win record beating the Maldives by straight 3-0 sets in the last league match.
