Netrakona farmers busy sowing boro seeds

The farmers in the district are passing busy time sowing Boro seeds in their farm lands since the first week of the current month.According to District Agriculture Extension Department (DAE), a massive programme was undertaken by the government during the current Boro season to produce over 7 lakh tonnes of Boro rice in Netrakona district.To attain the Boro rice production, a target was fixed by the DAE to cultivate Boro paddy on 180,038 hectares of land in 10 upazilas of the district.Of the total, 170,492 hectares of land have been earmarked for cultivating high yielding variety (HYV), 8,999 hectares for hybrid variety and 547 hectares for the local variety.Talking to BSS, deputy director of DAE Samir Kumar Sarker said cultivators have been provided training and technical assistances to make Boro cultivation a success.So far, the farmers have completed the transplantation of Boro seedlings on 72,853 hectares of land in the district, he added. -BSS, Netrakona
