New gas links depend on Petrobangla survey: Minister

It is not possible to determine right now how many new gas connections will be provided as it will be done after a survey, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Mohammad Enamul Haque told Parliament on Thursday. Petrobangla will conduct the survey to determine how much gas will be required in the next one year and new gas connections will be given in phases only there where gas pipelines already exists instead of expanding network, he said.
The junior minister said this while responding to a tabled starred question from Alhaj Adv M Rohmat Ali (Gazipur-3).
Enamul Huq said the illegal gas connections of those subscribers who are paying bills would be legalised in due process after receiving compensation.

(Laxmipur-3), Haque said the country has so far received foreign investment worth US$ 2,998.87 million for gas sector’s development.
Of the amount, Occidental/Unocal/Chevron invested US$ 1,599.08 million for the development of gas block-7, 12, 13/14, Shell/Cairn/Santos US$ 1,109.52 million for block- 5,10,15 and 16, Tallow US$ 240.73 for block-9, ConocoPhillips US$ 6.22 million for DS-08-10/11, Oakland US$ 25.39 million for block-17 and 18 and UMC/OBC US17.93 million for block-22.
