Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) panel mayor Nazrul Islam along with his four associates was abducted by miscreants from Fatulla area of the city on Sunday. The other victims are Nazrul’s aides Tajul, Swapan, Liton and his private car driver. Witnesses said a group of miscreants, posing as members of Rapid Action Battalion, intercepted the private car of Nazrul in front of Shibu Market around 2:30pm when he along with the others was returning after appearing before a local court in a case. Later, the hoodlums boarded the private car and sped away, they said. Selina Islam, wife of Nazrul Islam who is a councillor of NCC from ward-2, alleged that her husband who belongs to the ruling party was abducted for political reason. Meanwhile, the supporters of Nazrul put barricade on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways in Signboard area by burning tyres at about 5 pm after the news spread around. The road blockade disrupted traffic on the busy highways for half an hour. Later, police brought the situation under control. – UNB
