District Awami League general secretary and MP of Feni-2 constituency Nizamuddin Hazari on Thursday alleged that Joynal Hazari was involved in the murder of Fulgazi upazila parishad chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram.
Nizamuddin Hazari blamed Joynal Hazari in a written statement read out by Jubo League leader Babu Susen Shil at a press conference in the town in presence of Nizamuddin Hazari.
Denying his involvement in the murder, he alleged that different newspapers are publishing “confusing and false” news pointing finger at him for the murder.He alleged that an organised gang is hatching conspiracy to destabilise Feni.
Replying to a question over the report published in Hazarika, a local daily published by sacked Awami League leader Joynal Hazari, predicting disappearance and killing of many leaders, including Ekram, Nizam Hazari said Nizam said the mystery behind Ekram’s murder will be debunked if Joynal Hazari is interrogated after taking him on police remand.
“People responsible for the murder must be brought to justice, no matter who they are and whichever party they belong to.” he added.
Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram was shot and burnt to death by miscreants in Academy area of the district town on Tuesday.
Police said Ekram, an Awami League-backed UZ chairman, came under attack by the miscreants, numbering 20-30, on his way to the upazila headquarters in his car from his Masterpara residence around 11:00am.
Meanwhile, a case was filed against 36 people in connection with the killing. Police in a drive arrested 23 people from different parts of the district town from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday morning for their suspicious involvement in Ekram murder.
A daylong hartal, enforced by Awami League, was observed Thursday in the upazila protesting the killing. – UNB
