No classes in schools, colleges for 8 months a year?

A report has been published in a renowned daily that no classes are held for 8 months in a year in schools and colleges. That’s to say on 75 percent days of the year classes are not held due to public exams, weekly holidays and other holidays. The lost days include – one and a half months for SSC public examination, similar period of time for HSC examination and yet another month for JSC public examination. Again the schools in the divisional town of Rajshahi take no classes on fees collection days in each month.
Fact remains that new subjects like physical education, career education, information and communication technology and arts and crafts are added in curricula of schools and colleges. In the commerce group finance and banking have been added as compulsory subjects both in SSC and HSC.A few days ago, the principal of a divisional college said they could not find a lecturer of finance and banking for his college. The government made the subject compulsory for commerce group. A university student studying the subject teaches the students of his college.
The principal of a physical education colleges said that they had fewer students compared to seats of the college for many years, but this year many students failed to get admitted to his college.
Government claims that they have achieved quality education as they distributed books at the beginning of the year and they also publish results of public examinations of JSC, SSC and HSC in time. Once copying was great problem in all the public examinations and now students are getting good scores and even achieving GPA 5 without attaining the required level of knowledge. The Government asks to give maximum marks to all. It is very often whispered by teachers of schools or colleges that Sabitri (not real name) has also passed the examination!
But in the last few years, candidates with poor backgrounds have been recruited as teachers in exchange of huge amount of money by the influential members of the SMCs who are also linked to those in the corridors of power that be. I know a Chair of a SMC failed to recruit Principal as he refused take in a candidate preferred by influential quarters.
