No govt. role in HC stay on Dhaka North City polls: Quader

Dhaka, Jan 18 – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the government has no role regarding the court’s stay order on the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls.“Awami League doesn’t believe in dirty politics…The government has no role over the stay order regarding the DNCC by-polls,” he said at a press conference at AL president’s political office in city’s Dhanmondi.
Awami League organized the press conference to declare the name AL councilor candidates for DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls.
Quader said, “We called the press conference to declare the names of councilor candidates. But now we stop declaring the names as doing so might be contempt of court.”
About the Narayanganj incident between Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and AL leader Shamim Osman, Quader said the persons to be found responsible for it will have to face organizational punishment .
“I have already talked to them and will call them to a meeting to take a decision,” he added.
The AL general secretary termed the Narayanganj incident “unwanted and unacceptable.”
AL Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, AL Dhaka North city unit President Abul Hasnat, General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, AL South City Unit General Secretary Sadek Khan, AL Forests and Environment Affairs Secretary Delowar Hossain and executive committee member SM Kamal Hossain, among others, were present at the press conference. – BSS
