Noor Hossain sacrifice to inspire freeing democracy: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Sunday said that democracy freed through a 9-year movement in 1990 has again been chained, and that conspiracies are on to alienate it from the country. The dream of Noor Hossain is yet to be achieved. She said that the secret conspiracy to introduce one-party rule by holding one-sided elections has started becoming crystal clear. We have to resist this conspiracy of autocratic forces at all costs, she said.Eulogising the sacrifice made by Shaheed Noor Hossain for democracy she said in a statement issued to the press marking the Noor Hossain Day on November 10, the dream for which Noor Hossain sacrificed his life is yet to be fulfilled.
The former Prime Minister said that Noor Hossain was a source of inspiration of their struggle to restore democracy in the country. We should be united irrspective of party or political affiliations to free democracy and be ready to make supreme sacrifice like Shaheed Noor Hossain for the cause of democracy.
Begum Khaleda Zia paid deep respects to Noor Hossain and prayed for the salvation of his soul, the statement said.
On November 10 in 1987 Noor Hossain had come to the forefront of the demonstration against the then Jatiya Party rule inscribing on his chest and back messages, ‘down with autocracy, let democracy be free’. He was gunned down. Noor Hossain’s body still had those messages inscribed when a bullet pierced his chest killing him instantly. – Staff Reporter
