Now police encircle ‘militant den’ in Comilla

Barely 14 hours after law enforcers cordoned off two suspected militant dens in Moulvibazar, police encircled a building at South Bagmara of Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Wednesday afternoon suspecting it to be a militant den.

Based on intelligence information, a team of police surrounded the three-storey building at Baro Kobarstan around 4:30 pm, said Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent (South) of police.

Police super of the district M Shah Abid Hasan said a drive at the building will begin once a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrives here from Dhaka.

He also said residents of the nearby houses were evacuated.

Meanwhile, police detained Saddam Hossain, brother of house owner Delwar Hossain, for interrogation.

Wishing anonymity, a police source said militants were staying on the ground floor of the building. “The house was cordoned off based on information gleaned from arrested militants,” he said.

Nearly eight hours after Bangladesh Army officially called off its operation at ‘Atia Mahal’ in Dakkhin Surma upazila of Sylhet on Tuesday night, police cordoned off two houses at Barhat in municipality area and Fatehpur village in Sadar upazila early Wednesday, suspecting those to be militant hideouts.

Tipped off, police encircled the houses around 2:30am, said officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Model Police Station Abdus Salek.
