Dhaka – The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule against National University VC Dr Harun-or-Rashid for his alleged contempt of court as did not pay salaries of a lecturer complying a High Court directive.The High Court also asked the VC to explain within two weeks why contempt of court proceedings should not be taken up against him for the noncompliance. A bench of Justice Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order after hearing the writ petition on Tuesday.
Earlier, on June 4, last year, teacher Hafizur Rahman filed a contempt of court petition against the NU VC and the High Court on August 22, last year, directed the NU VC to pay the salary and other benefits to the teacher as per the scale of 1997, 2005, 2009 and 2015. But the VC did not take any step to following the order. Advocates Abdur Rab Chowdhury and M Giasuddin stood for the petitioner. – Special Correspondent
