Businessman Nur Mohammed remanded over cocaine seizure

A court here on Sunday placed Nur Mohammad, chairman of Khan Jahan Ali Group, on a three-day remand in a case filed in connection with the seizure of liquid cocaine at Chittagong Port on June 8 last year.Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rahamat Ali passed the order following a petition filed by the investigation officer of the case.Earlier, law enforcers arrested Khan Jahan Ali Group chairman Nur Mohammad from the port city on Friday in connection with cocaine seizure.He was sent to jail when he was produced before the court after his arrest.The investigation officer of the case Mahiuddin Faruki sought a three-day remand for Nur Mohammad for interrogation on that day.Liquid cocaine was detected in one of the 107 drums of a consignment of Bolivian sunflower oil which the customs intelligence officials seized at Chittagong Port on June 8 last.

Laboratory tests on the liquid samples from the consignment detected cocaine in the liquid of one of the 185kg drums, which was imported under the name of Bolivian sunflower oil.Sub-inspector of Bandar Police Station Osman Goni filed a case against Nur Mohammad, owner of ‘Khan Jahan Ali Limited’, and its employee Sohel under the Narcotics Control Act.Police arrested Sohel soon after the consignment seizure.
