Obama pledges $3 billion for Green Climate Fund

President Barack Obama recently pledged $3 billion for Green Climate Fund (GCF) to help poor countries cope with the effects of climate change which include tasks like helping vulnerable communities with early-warning systems, stronger defenses against storm surges, and climate-resilient infrastructure. While making the pledge President Obama said ahead of G20 summit-“We’ll help farmers plant more durable crops. We’ll help developing economies reduce their carbon pollution and invest in clean energy.”It is hoped that most vulnerable countries including Bangladesh to climate change effects will be benefited from the GCF program.
I would like to mention here that President Obama has so far taken a number of initiatives to encountering climate change effects not only in his country but all the countries of the world. In my observation, President’s voice in favor of taking pragmatic actions to combating climate change effects globally has up to some extent contributed to his recent Democratic losses in the midterm elections. Because even high profile scientists, policy makers do not accept the climate change phenomena as a real event! For instance, the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who hosted the recent G20 summit, had once described climate science as “absolute crap”.
Meanwhile I sincerely congratulate President Obama for his bold initiative to ensuring greater welfare of our dear earth and its inhabitants-humans, animals and plants. While standing by his side I sincerely wish success of all his climate initiatives.
