Off-spinner Nayeem looking for gradual improvement

DHAKA —Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is looking for gradual improvement in skill and fit-wise as he continued his individual training programme at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, arranged by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“I started practice here before Eid. It was not easy to get back your previous strength and fitness from the day one since we were away from any kind of outdoor training for four/five months,” Nayeem said in a video message sent by the BCB.

“But there was some improvement and I will try to improve. Before Eid I did gym and running. Now I started bowling. It was tough initially due to rust. But hopefully I will overcome this if I continue practicing like this,” he added.

Nayeem is one of the 27 cricketers who started individual training at five venues across the country.

A total of 15 cricketers are practicing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur with Test skipper Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Shadman Islam, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, leg-spinner Aminul Islam Biplob and fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain are the new addition.

The rest of seven cricketers—Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Anamu Haque Bijoy, Shaiful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan Rana indeed started training before Eid.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan and Nurul Hasan Sohan continued practicing at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

Fast bowlers Abu Jayed Rahee and Ebadot Hossain joined Nasum Ahmed and Syed Khaled Ahmed to practice individually at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Nayeem Hasan however was accompanied by Yasir Ali Rabbi and Irfan Shukkur at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam, Nazmul Hossain Shanto are practicing at the Shaheed Kamruzzman Stadium in Rajshahi.BSS
