Oil-laden train derails in B’baria, spill in nearby canals

Brahmanbaria, June 30 – Rail communications on Chattogram-Sylhet route snapped as an oil-laden train derailed in Shamarailkandi area here on Saturday night. All the wheels of one of the nine tank wagons slipped off the track when the locomotive reached at the place around 10:30 pm, witnesses said.
However, no one was injured in this incident, said Md Kamrul Islam, station master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station.
Meanwhile, rail communication on Chittagong-Sylhet route remained suspended since the derailment.
The accidental spill from the wagons of the freight train leaked into nearby canals posing a serious threat to aquatic creatures in the area.
On information, a fire service team rushed there and started salvage work to restore the rail link.
No rescue train had reached at the spot till filling of this report around 0045 hours Sunday. – UNB
