Dhaka, Apr 11 – Oil-like substance smelling like diesel has been seeping into a pond at Baniapara village at Khansama upazila of Bangladesh’s northernmost district of Dinajpur. Local people call it unprecedented.The incident was first reported when a woman came to take a bath on the pond, owned by one Habibur Rahman, nearly 15 days ago.
The woman found the smell of diesel from her cloth after washing it on the pond.
Later, she found that oil-like substance was seeping from the pond and informed other resident of the village of the news.
Thousands of people have been visiting the pond everyday to watch the pond that was dug around 25 years back.
Hafizul Hoque, chairman of Bherbheri Union Parishad, said he was informed about the matter. However, are those natural oil will be known after tests were done by experts, he added. – UNB
