‘Oishy alone killed her parents,’ says DB Police

Oishy Rahman had alone murdered her parents — Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum — the  Detective Branch of police has claimed.
Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam claimed this at a press briefing at the DB headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday after interrogating her for the last five days.
Police recovered the bodies of Inspector Mahfuzur and his wife from their Chamelibagh residence on Aug 16. Their bodies bore multiple stab wounds, which forensic experts believed, were the work of amateurs.
Detectives had previously made the same allegation against Oishy after she had surrendered before a police station in the capital on Aug 17. Mahfuz’s brother Moshiur Rahman Rubel, however, had contested police’s claim.
Rubel, also plaintiff of the murder case, suspects ‘any other mystery’ behind the killing of his brother and sister-in-law.
The Joint Commissioner said Oishy had sedated her parents on the night of Aug 14 and knifed them to death.
“She had locked up her younger brother in the bathroom as he saw her murdering them,” Islam added.
The police official alleged she also had threatened and compelled Khadiza Khatun Sumi, her housemaid, to assist her in the murders.
He said police were yet to ascertain anyone else’s involvement in the gruesome killings.
Earlier in the day, Oishy had given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court at the end of her five-day remand. The court sent her and the domestic help Sumi to jail. They have been sent to Gazipur Kishori Unnayan Kendra, a juvenile correction home.
The court again sent Oishy’s friend Mijanur Rahman Roni on a five-day remand as he is yet to give is confessional statement.
Speaking at the press conference, Islam said the Oxford International School student had left the house on Aug 15 with her brother and Sumi after the twin murder.
Oihy Rahman, the brother, was sent to their neighbour’s house the next day but she surrendered before Paltan Police Station on Aug 17.
Sumi and one of her friends were arrested later.
Islam had earlier mentioned about recovering some of the ornaments from Oishy which went missing after the murders.
Police claim Oishy was “nurturing hatred” for her parents as they barred her from leading a life full of indiscipline.
The autopsy reports show her father’s body bore two stabs wounds while her mother’s had a total of 11 wounds.
Meanwhile, Rights bodies had flayed the detention and remanding of Oishy and Sumi saying it violated the Children Act.
Police have already conducted a medical test to confirm her age following a court order. But the reporters are yet to come.
Oishy’s school records show she is a minor. National Human Rights Commission Chairman Mizanur Rahman has said her arrest and remand are a complete violation of the Children Act.
Sumi is shown as a 15-year-old in the case. Sending her into police custody also raised questions. – bdnews24.com
UNB adds: Oishy Rahman made a confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Saturday on completion of her 5-day remand.   She was taken to the chamber of Metropolitan Magistrate Anwar Sadat at noon. Anwar Sadat recorded her statement for nearly three hours under section 164 of the CrPC.
A Dhaka court on August 18 put Oishy, an O-level student of Oxford International School, her friend Mizanur Rahman, and domestic help Khadiza Khatun alias Sumi on a five-day remand in connection with the killing of her father SB inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and mother Swapna.   Sumi was also making her confessional statement which was completed till filing of the report 5:30 pm.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur Abul placed Mizanur Rahman on a 5-day remand again when DB inspector Khair Matubbar submitted a petition before the court on Saturday seeking a 10-day remand for him. On August 21, she underwent various tests at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to determine her age.
The investigators put her on the medical tests amid widespread criticisms from various quarters, including rights groups, for taking her on remand as she is thought to be underage.   On August 16, police recovered the bodies of Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna from their Chamelibagh residence.
There were marks of injuries caused from sharp weapons allover the bodies of the victims.   The couple had been living in the house with their two children – Oishy, 17, and Oihee,7, — and housemaid Sumi.   Oishy came to the Paltan Police Station around 2:30 pm on Saturday last and surrendered to the police.   She was taken to the DB office at Minto Road. Later, police along with Oishy conducted a drive at different parts of the city and arrested four people in connection with the murder case.
