One arrested for ransacking SBMCH room

Police arrested one attendant of a patient for ransacking Sher E
Bangla Medical College Hospital room following the death of the
patient for alleged negligence of treatment on Saturday.
Witnesses, police and hospital sources said Ferdousi Begum, 28, wife
of Sirajul Islam of Laharhut under Sadar upazila of Barisal gave birth
to son at Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman Clinic of the city by caesarean
operation under Dr. Shah Alam on February 28, 2012.
Due to infection and post operative complication sFerdousi was
operated for the second time by Dr. Shah Alam on June 27.
She admitted in the unit-1 of female surgery ward at SBMCH under Dr.
Sharfuzzaman Rubel on July 6 after her condition deteriorated, said
her brother Md. Selim.
After admission at SBMCH they engaged in altercation with Fatema
Begum, a nurse of the ward for negligence and the nurse threatened
them, said Nargis Begum, sister of Ferdousi.
Ferdousi died on Saturday morning after the same nurse pushed an
injection into her and the death agitating the attendants of the
patient, ransacked the room of the nurses in the ward, witnesses said.
Police rushed to the spot controlled the situation and detained Arifur
Rahman, one of the attendant of the patient.
Police sent the body to morgue for autopsy, said Shakhawat Hossain,
Kotwali police station in charge.
Dr. Ferdous Alam Shibir, director SBMCH, said they will lodge a case
in connection of ransacking the hospital room and investigate the
alleged negligence in treatment of the patient. -Our Correspondent
