One gets 10 yrs for possessing arms in N’ganj

A special court here on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years’ imprisonment in an arms case.
The convict was identified as Sultan, 30, son of Abdur Rahman of Bhulta village in Rupganj upazila.According to the prosecution, a team of police conducted a drive in Golakandail of Bhulta area in the upazila and arrested five people on November 14, 2004.Later, police recovered a country-made pistol from their possession.A case was filed against them under the Arms Act for possessing firearm illegally.After examining records and witnesses, Judge Mamunur Rashid of Special Tribunal Court handed down the verdict.The court acquitted Panir, Abdul Akter, Din Islam and Zakir as the allegations against them could not be proved. -UNB, Narayanganj
