Over 100 RMG workers fall sick in Gazipur: 50 more Hospitalized

Fifty more workers of three garment factories in Singboard area of Gazipur were hospitalized on Monday as they fell ill after drinking water supplied by factories’ authorities.Asked about the matter, the factories’ authorities said those workers who have fallen ill afresh today (Monday) are undergoing treatment.
General Manager (GM) of East-West Group M Mustafizur Rahman, however, claimed that there is no problem in the water supplied by their factories.  “If required, anyone can test water.”

Earlier on Sunday, over 100 workers of the three garment factories fell sick after drinking water supplied by the factories. Factory sources said the workers of Romania Fashion of East-West Group at Signboard area of the city fell sick around 11am.The workers of Alvin Fashion and European Fashion factories of the same group also fell sick at the same time after drinking water from tap supplied by the factory authorities.The workers were admitted to Gazipur Sadar hospital, Tongi government hospital and local clinics.  The factories were declared closed for the day.Civil surgeon Syed Md Habibullah said necessary measures have been taken for the treatment of the workers.

A huge contingent of police was deployed in the area to avoid any trouble over the incident. (Source: UNB)
