Panicked, 19 grazing goats run under speedy train crushed

Chuadanga, Aug 17 (UNB) – Some 19 goats and a sheep were crushed under the wheels of a train near Darshana Railway Station in Damurhuda upazila on Saturday afternoon.

Nur Islam, owner of seven of the goats, said the accident took place in Akandbaria area around 2pm on Saturday when around 80 goats of some locals were grazing in a field near the rail line.

The goats panicked and started running as a speeding train was passing the area. At one stage, 19 goats and 1 sheep were caught under the wheels of the train and killed on the spot.

Saiful Islam, a signal engineer at Darshana Railway Station, said grazing of cattle near the rail-lines is strictly forbidden.

‘’This is merely an accident. The rail authority has nothing to do with it,’’ added Saiful.
