Ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route remained suspended for seven and a half hours till Friday morning due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Mohiuddin Rasel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha ghat, said they had kept suspended ferry service and plying of the water vessels from about 2:00 am due to blurred visibility for dense fog.
Five ferries named Matiur Rahman, Shah Paran, Shah Ali, Barkat and Shah Jalal remained stranded in the middle of the river Padma for the suspension.
Besides, six ferries at both Paturia and Daulatdia ghats lay in wait for crossing the river.
About 100 vehicles, including buses, remained stuck on both ends of the ferry route.
Ferry service was later restored at 9:30 am on Friday.
