Pay salary, bonus by Aug 6: RMG owners asked

The readymade garment factory owners were asked on Sunday to pay the salary and festival bonus of their workers by August 6 next to avert any untoward incident ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.The decision was taken at a meeting of the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufactures & Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association (BTMA) with Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir at his ministry.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Home Minister said, “The meeting decided to take initiatives so that factory owners pay the salary and festival bonus of their workers by August 6.”
MK Alamgir also said a control room will be opened at the BGMEA office to deal with the issues that may create complications regarding the payment of salaries and festival bonus.
He also said that law enforcement agencies were directed to stay alert and take measures so that no untoward incident takes place over the matter.
The minister said that his ministry has already requested the Bangladesh Bank to quickly release the bills of garment owners paid by their foreign clients.
State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haq Tuku, leaders of BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA, top officials of different law enforcement and intelligence agencies were present at the meeting. – UNB
